A comforting reminder that recovery from anything comes one step at a time
Designer Sharon Sullivan created The Recovery Bracelet™ in honor of her brother, Doug Smith, who was critically injured in a dirt bike accident in Phoenix in 2003.
The bracelet is an outgrowth of Sharon and her family’s support for her brother’s continuous recovery. His accident affected her deeply and was the catalyst for her decision to design jewelry full time. It was that passion that resulted in the fortuitous creation of The Recovery Bracelet™. Here is how Sharon describes its origin:
“While making jewelry I had an array of left-over pearls in various sizes and colors scattered around my work area. As I lined them up to get them out of the way, I noticed I had arranged them from the smallest to the biggest. Suddenly, I had an epiphany. The way the pearls were lined up like stepping stones made me think of the progress of my brother's recovery. That moment was the inspiration behind the bracelet. It was the notion that recovery and healing is one step at a time. It calmed some of the anxiety over his recovery to see it that way for me. A few tears later, I made a bracelet that symbolizes the road to recovery.”
The Recovery Bracelet™ is available in the gift shop at St. Joseph’s hospital or online at www.sharonsullivan.com. A portion of the proceeds from each bracelet sold go to Barrow Neurological Institute, specifically benefitting neuro rehabilitation. Each bracelet comes with a tag that explains the personal story of the origin of the bracelet.
