Six new members elected to board
The Board of Trustees of Barrow Neurological Foundation has elected new officers for fiscal years 2010-2012, along with six new members. New officers are:
• Chairman - Patti Gentry, Principal/Designated Broker for Arizona Commercial Advisors
• Lisa Handley, vice chairman, Senior Vice President, Mid First Bank
• Greg Anderson, treasurer, CEO of Legacy Senior Housing and Development Company
• Herman Orcutt, secretary, retired architect
• Mary Jane Crist, CEO/assistant secretary, CEO of Barrow Neurological Foundation
The following people were elected to one-year terms on the board:
• Barbara Barone, President and CEO of Biltmore Advisors. Barone is the founder of Biltmore Advisors, Inc., an independent Arizona investment advisory firm that has been voted one of the Top Ten Investment Consultants in Arizona by Arizona Business Magazine every year since 2005. Barone has 30 years of experience in strategic investment and financial planning. She was the founder and president of two Arizona-based independent trust companies, as well as a vice president and trust officer of a major Arizona bank. Barone has held management positions with two national broker dealers and was responsible for the development and execution of investment plans. Barone earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Florida State University.
• Shelley Ann Duane, President of Revelations Interiors. Duane was a psychotherapist and behavioral consultant at the Institute for Developmental Behavioral Neurology in Scottsdale until her retirement in 2009. Besides running an interior decorating business, she is active in the community through membership in Arizona State University Women and Philanthropy, The Charter 100, and Friends of O’Connor House. She has also served on the Symphony Ball Committee, the Opera Ball Committee, and the Arizona Institute for Breast Health Board. Duane earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology and a master’s in educational psychology and counseling from Winona State University in Minnesota. She lives in Paradise Valley.
• Catharine Bienvenu Fitch, Vice President, Investments for Raymond James & Associates, Inc. After teaching high school and junior college in the Atlanta area for 14 years, Fitch completed a two-year internship with Shearson Lehman Brothers and began a new career in the investment field. She is a member of ARCS, a scholarship program for budding young scientists; the Arizona Planning Organization; and Women of Scottsdale. Fitch earned a bachelor’s degree at Loyola University in New Orleans and a master’s degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
• Barbara Greiner Glass, president of Barbara Greiner Glass and Associates. Glass has worked for more than 20 years in the insurance industry, specializing in corporate and individual insurance sales, and in the design, implementation, and management of insurance benefit programs. She is active in the community and is currently affiliated with Social Venture Partners Arizona, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and the Desert Botanical Garden. Glass earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. She is a certified financial planner.
• Karl James, partner and managing director of Capital Commercial Investments, Inc., a privately held real estate investment firm. James has been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years. He has owned and managed real estate development, construction, and transportation companies throughout the U.S. James has partnered in more than 30 real estate companies and continues to invest strategically around the country. Most recently, he spent six years as the president and general manager of a growing transportation company. Karl is currently working to develop Continuum in Chandler, a 152-acre science and technology park dedicated to the advancement of bio-sciences, life sciences, renewable and sustainable energy, semi-conductor technology, aerospace advancement, and knowledge-based industries. He lives in Scottsdale.
• Patrick J. McGroder III, partner in Gallagher & Kennedy, a large A-V rated law firm. McGroder specializes in plaintiffs’ catastrophic personal injury litigation, including consumer advocacy, HMO negligence, nursing home negligence, professional negligence, products liability, and aviation litigation. He was the lead co-counsel in Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors fuel-fed fire cases in Arizona and nationwide. Besides his work as a trial lawyer, McGroder is active in several community organizations, including Central Arizona Shelter Services for the Homeless and the Open Door Shelter for victims of domestic violence. McGroder is a founder of Actors Theater of Phoenix; “Christmas Spirit,” a project to provide food and clothing to indigent families at Christmas; and the annual Patrick McGroder Golf Tournament, which benefits various homeless causes. He earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Notre Dame and a law degree at the University of Arizona. McGroder and his wife, Susan, have three children.

Evans, Lee Hanley, Linda Hunt, Mike Ingram, Guy Inzalaco, Stephen Lenn, Stanley W. Levine, Mac Magruder, Dr. Roy A. Patchell, Tom Reahard, Anne Robbs, Dennis Sage, Dr. Robert F. Spetzler, and E. Jeffrey Walsh.
Barrow Neurological Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for research, medical education, and patient care at Barrow Neurological Institute of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. The foundation is governed by a board of trustees that is made up of community leaders who serve on a voluntary basis.
