Remembering Barrow benefactor and friend Mary Lou Fulton

July 22, 2015

Mary Lou FultonMary Lou Fulton, one of our community’s most generous benefactors, passed away on Oct. 1, 2015 at the age of 82.

Mary Lou and her husband, Ira, established the Gregory W. Fulton ALS and Neuromuscular Disorders Center at Barrow Neurological Institute in 2011 to honor their son Gregory, and to thank Barrow for the care he received. Gregory passed away from ALS in 2011.

The gift reaffirmed the values that have sustained the family through the years: kindness, love, caring, giving and faith. They also established the Ira A. and Mary Lou Fulton Chair in Motor Neuron Disease at the center.

Born Mary Lou Henson in Phoenix on Aug. 10, 1933, she met then-ASU football player Ira Fulton in 1953. They wed in June 1954. The couple had three children—Lori, Gregory and Douglas—and through the years welcomed many grandchildren and great-grandchildren into the family.

The staff and friends of St. Joseph’s Foundation and Barrow Neurological Foundation extend our prayers and condolences to Mrs. Fulton’s family and friends.
