Repost @barrowneuro// On Friday, Barrow Neurological Institute welcomed a special guest: neurosurgeon and @cnn Chief Medical Correspondent @drsanjaygupta.
Dr. Gupta sat down with Barrow President and CEO @michael_t_lawton, MD, in front of a packed auditorium at the Institute for a candid conversation.
Their one-hour talk touched on several thought-provoking topics, including both the rewarding and difficult aspects of having a bifurcated career, the importance of finding and nurturing what energizes you, and how artificial intelligence is challenging us to ask ourselves what makes us uniquely human.
We’re so grateful Dr. Gupta took the time to speak at Grand Rounds, meet with our neurosurgery residents, and tour our campus.
Not having control over your body can range from frustrating to frightening. For many patients, #ParkinsonDisease threatens their ability to do the things they love, and interferes with their day-to-day lives. Now, because of the incredible support from donors like you, patients with previously untreatable conditions are taking back control of their lives.

In 1988, 23-year-old Sarah Noonan (Neylon) was enjoying city life in Chicago, living independently, and starting a new job. But a devastating fall down a flight of stairs led to a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), changing her promising future in an instant. She placed her trust in the Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation (CTN), led by Pamela Klonoff, PhD.
Last May, 37 years after her accident, Sarah returned to Barrow to share her story with participants at the CTN. "I truly believe the CTN saved me. I still don’t know how I would have made it without that program, and I will always be grateful," she affirms.

This year marks the CTN`s 40th anniversary of empowering patients like Sarah to reintegrate into their homes, communities, careers, and education. Your vital support makes this transformative work possible. Thank you!

Over 7 million Americans are living with #Alzheimer`s disease, and the widespread delay in diagnosing patients severely limits access to effective treatments. Through philanthropic support, Barrow Neurological Institute is working to change that paradigm.
Thanks to incredible donor support, we`re pioneering Project Pegasus. This groundbreaking study, led by Anna D. Burke, MD, Director of the Barrow Alzheimer`s & Memory Disorders Program, uses AI-based digital cognitive tests in primary care clinics to enable earlier Alzheimer`s diagnosis and afford patients better access to therapies, research opportunities, and more. As of January 1, 2026, the Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation (CTN) at Barrow Neurological Institute reached a 40-year milestone. It is the world`s only holistic milieu program to have sustained its breadth of programming for four decades! 👏
The CTN emphasizes rebuilding patients` independence in the home and community, and their productivity when returning to work or school. It also provides emotional support and education to families about their loved ones` strengths and challenges, and how to assist in their recovery. Learn more at the link in our bio!
Congrats to 40 years! We are incredibly grateful for your support in making this milestone possible.
