How does fundraising on social media help patients at Barrow? Grateful patient Dave Allen suffered a massive stroke that caused severe damage to his brain. His recovery hasn’t been easy, but thanks to the team at Barrow, he can walk again, has improved his speech and cognition, bought a house, and learned to drive again.
Dave`s story is just one example of the many Barrow patients who have been impacted by your generosity. Learn how you can help by reading our guide to social media fundraising at the link in our bio! ⬆️

Ann Rogers is in a league of her own. Resilient and optimistic, the 70-year-old soccer star and Ivy Brain Tumor Center patient can find silver linings in nearly every cloud. Ann had just wrapped up a soccer tournament and was finishing dinner with her family when, “She started displaying significant expressive aphasia, and just wasn’t making any sense,” her son, Lyle, recalled. Following CT and MRI scans, her doctors identified a golf-ball-sized #glioblastoma tumor on her left temporal lobe. “I refused to believe it. I felt fine and said, ‘We’ll just battle this.’ I’m a warrior, and I refuse to lose.”

In 2023, at age 59, Dr. Jason Singer was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. While the devastating diagnosis turned his life upside down, Jason’s defiant spirit and creativity led him to the art of painting. He found comfort and hope with every piece he made.
Last Thursday, Jason and his wife, Jennifer, hosted an Art for Alzheimer`s event, where more than 30 pieces of his artwork were auctioned off. The event raised over $150,000 to support early detection research and patient programming in the Barrow Alzheimer`s & Memory Disorders Program at @barrowneuro. We are incredibly grateful to the Singers for their support and generosity in hosting this amazing event!

Congratulations to Barrow vascular #neurologist Judea Wiggins, MD, whose project has received a 2025 DEI Innovator Grant from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN)! This grant is designed to support new, untested, and innovative approaches to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
As co-principal investigators, Dr. Wiggins and The University of Utah Stroke Center Director Jennifer Majersik, MD, will create a #strokeawareness campaign culturally tailored to Pacific Islanders living in Utah.
The project builds upon a needs-based survey the investigators conducted in Utah, which has the highest concentration of Pacific Islanders of any continental U.S. state. The survey of 98 adult Pacific Islanders was funded by a seed grant from the University of Utah Department of #Neurology, where Dr. Wiggins trained as a stroke fellow before joining the faculty in the #PetznickStrokeCenter at #BarrowNeurologicalInstitute. The results showed significant knowledge gaps in identifying and responding to stroke symptoms. Survey participants also expressed a desire to learn more about #stroke prevention, stroke recovery, and their unique stroke risk factors as Pacific Islanders.
Compared to other racial groups, Pacific Islanders are four times more likely to experience a stroke and 30% more likely to die after a stroke. Yet, there has been no community #strokeeducation specific to Pacific Islanders in the United States, with existing education combining this population with all Asian Americans
.
Drs. Wiggins and Majersik plan to consult with experts in community health education to design and distribute information both digitally and in print. They hope to eventually replicate this campaign to Pacific Islanders nationwide.

Whether it`s revolutionizing stroke care, unlocking the mysteries of memory disorders, or pioneering neuro-robotics, you can designate funds to drive progress in the neurological field you are most passionate about - meaning your contribution makes a meaningful difference exactly where you choose.
