Barrow Neurological Foundation partners with Phoenix Airport Museum for environment of healing
A new art exhibit is now on display inside the Neuroplex at Barrow Neurological Institute thanks to a partnership between the Barrow Neurological Foundation and the Phoenix Airport Museum at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The Barrow Neurological Foundation’s art council worked closely with Haley Hinds, curator of the Phoenix Airport Museum, to select impactful works by local artists from the museum’s extensive collection to be exhibited within Barrow’s state-of-the-art facility located on the Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center campus.
“We are grateful to have community partners like the Phoenix Airport Museum to create a beautiful and calming environment for patients, families and staff,” said Benjamin Dveirin, content producer at the Barrow Neurological Foundation and member of the Barrow Art and Wellness Program. “Art and neuroaesthetics have a profound ability to impact health and happiness. We believe this program can bring a sense of care and comfort for those receiving renowned neurological care at Barrow.”
As one of the largest airport art programs in the nation, the Phoenix Airport Museum operates under the City of Phoenix’s Aviation Department and serves as a point of pride for local communities. This award-winning program features a fine art collection and exhibition program, which features local artists in themed exhibitions through more than 40 display areas throughout the airport system, which includes not only Phoenix Sky Harbor but Phoenix Deer Valley and Phoenix Goodyear airports as well.
The mission of the Phoenix Airport Museum is to enhance the airport visitor’s experience by creating a calm, memorable and educational environment that promotes Arizona’s unique artistic and cultural heritage.
“The Phoenix Airport Museum has a goal to make art accessible to the community, and we are thrilled to partner with Barrow Neurological Foundation in this effort,” said Hinds. “Art has many benefits, including the ability to soften an environment, offer us something beautiful to look at and something new to think about.”
“As a donor of the Barrow Neurological Foundation, we are proud to help contribute towards a healing environment within the Neuroplex which allows artwork to be displayed in a meaningful way,” said Mal Jozoff who is a board member of Barrow Neurological Foundation. His wife Jane added, “Our hope is that the power of art promotes a sense of profound wellbeing within the Neuroplex.”
There are a total of five large-scale artworks on view from the Phoenix Airport Museum’s fine art collection inside the Neuroplex which are on loan for one year. The artwork exhibit comes on the heels of Barrow’s recent participation in a groundbreaking neuroaesthetics exhibition at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and its partnership with the Phoenix Art Museum.
