We are often asked, "How much is too much to leave to my heirs?" 🤔 Did you know, research has shown that generational wealth is often depleted by the third generation, so it`s wise to put parameters in your estate plan to help your heirs manage sudden wealth. This could be as simple as teaching your heirs about the importance of philanthropy by sharing your own story of why you give to Barrow Neurological Foundation.

Oftentimes, individuals don`t know they have a #brainaneurysm until it ruptures, causing bleeding in the #brain that can have life-altering or fatal consequences. 🔬 Funded by philanthropy, Tomoki Hasimoto, MD, is studying age-related biological events that can lead to an #aneurysm rupture. This research has two translational potentials: (1) certain drugs that modify these events could be incorporated into a treatment strategy, and (2) blood tests that measure these events could be used to predict the risk of an aneurysm rupture.
You are helping change aneurysm outcomes by funding groundbreaking #research at the Barrow Aneurysm and AVM Research Center! Learn more about your impact here: https://bar.rw/460d53j. Link in bio! ⬆️

We are pleased to announce the 2025-26 leadership team for the Women’s Board of Barrow Neurological Foundation. Community volunteer Katie Mueller will serve as Board Chair, with Chair-Elect Amy Cohn, Corresponding Secretary Julie Kroot, Recording Secretary Betsy Haenel, Treasurer Shaun Bracken, and Finance Chair Amy Flood. Sydney Fox and Betsy Moore will serve as the Co-Chairs for the 2026 Barrow Grand Ball, with Jan Lewis as the Ball Advisor.
Each year, the Women’s Board selects a specific research department at Barrow Neurological Institute to receive special funding through the Ball, designating it as the “Women’s Board Project.” These projects are chosen to highlight innovative research that can have a measurable impact on patients’ lives. For the 2026 Ball, the Women’s Board has selected the Ivy Brain Tumor Center as its special project.
“We are honored to select the Ivy Brain Tumor Center as this year’s Women’s Board Project. Its signature Phase 0 clinical trials program is the largest in the world and enables personalized care in a fraction of the time and cost associated with traditional drug development. We could not think of a more deserving project to support,” said 2026 Ball Co-Chairs Sydney Fox and Betsy Moore.

Fluent in four languages, Kris`s world was built on words. Then, a devastating diagnosis threatened to take it all away: an #AVM was found located right next to the language center of his brain.
"Language is my entire world, and I couldn`t imagine a life deprived of it."
His doctors said it was inoperable. But Kris found hope and a second chance with Michael T. Lawton, MD, President and CEO of Barrow Neurological Institute. Dr. Lawton successfully removed the AVM while preserving Kris`s ability to speak, translate, and lead the life he loves. 👉🏼 Read Kris`s full journey and learn how you can help: https://bar.rw/4g7FjxU.

We`re thrilled to announce the unveiling of our newest art exhibition, made possible through a partnership between Barrow Neurological Foundation and the Phoenix Airport Museum at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. New article alert! Shafeeq Lahda, MD, director of the Gregory W. Fulton ALS and Neuromuscular Disease Center at Barrow Neurological Institute, highlights the transformative power of philanthropy in an article from Neurology Today. ⬇️
He describes the beginnings of the now esteemed Center, remarking that, "The clinic was very small; we didn`t have great resources; we had a very bare bones team; we didn`t really have any translational research to offer patients." Now, through the support of generous donors, the Center has a world-renowned research program and is the largest ALS clinic west of the Mississippi River. We are incredibly grateful for donor support that makes this possible.
