#TBT - We cannot believe that this was ONE year ago today! ⛳ On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, we raised an incredible $1 million through the inaugural golf tournament, The Barrow Open! This tournament was in support of a key initiative: to help athletes safely return to their game after a spine injury.
This initiative aims to establish a first-of-its-kind research lab, the Barrow Sports Biomechanics Spine Laboratory at @barrowneuro. Thanks to your support, Barrow experts are equipped to lead vital research into effective treatments and science-backed return-to-play guidelines, starting with the complex biomechanics of the golf swing. The Barrow Open was graciously presented by @pxg with special support from @wedealinhope and took place at the iconic TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course. We are incredibly grateful for their support!
At Barrow Neurological Institute, every breakthrough begins with you. Your generosity has helped patients regain independence after life-changing surgeries, students who discovered their passion for neuroscience through our internship programs, and families who found hope amid devastating diagnoses. These moments are possible through your support and generosity.
On behalf of the Barrow Neurological Foundation Board of Trustees, staff, and all the physicians, scientists, clinicians, and faculty at Barrow Neurological Institute, thank you for entrusting us with your support. Every gift, every story, and every act of generosity advances neuroscience and changes lives. Visit the link in our bio to read the full report! https://bar.rw/4qhCO0i
We were honored to join AZ Family News to highlight our partnership with the Arizona Cardinals Foundation as a cornerstone beneficiary. This collaboration underscores how philanthropic support is a crucial component to bridge the gap in neurologic healthcare for young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) as they transition into adult-care programs.
The Arizona Cardinals Foundation`s support is critical in making our vision a reality:
"Our vision is to develop a comprehensive neurological healthcare program that will improve the lifespan and health span of our patients living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as create a model that can be replicated nationally and internationally, thus improving the care of people worldwide." — Brad A. Racette, MD, FAAN, Senior Vice President of Neurology at Barrow Neurological Institute.
We couldn`t be more grateful to partner with the Arizona Cardinals Foundation on this impactful initiative.
👏 It was great to see philanthropic support for research at Barrow Neurological Institute and science education in Arizona come together in the Dorrance Dome—an 8K+ resolution LED planetarium at the Arizona Science Center in Phoenix, AZ. Congratulations to researcher Brittany Kzyzanowski, PhD, and artist Kendra Solars for a truly illuminating ARx project, highlighting the relationship between environmental #neurotoxins and #Parkinson`s disease!
Thank you to everyone who visited the art exhibit at Creighton University! We were honored to showcase the incredible talent and resilience of individuals with Parkinson`s disease and their care partners. 🎨
Many of the pieces showcased were created through the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center`s Expressive Arts Program, which uses art as a therapeutic tool to reduce stress and support well-being. Thank you, once again, to all who joined us and to all who support this program at Barrow!
"Without philanthropic support, it would be incredibly hard to maintain and advance what we are doing here at Barrow Neurological Institute." Robert Bowser, PhD, John P. and Betty Van Denburgh Chair for Neuromuscular Disease.
What began as a handful of researchers and clinical trials decades ago has blossomed into a research powerhouse where dozens of research scientists conduct translational work, clinical trials, and work to bring the latest discoveries from the lab, to the bedside quicker than ever before. This incredible success is only possible with your support. Join us in transforming human lives through research with a gift today ➡️https://bar.rw/3JlOFdd. Link in bio.
Meet David Wang, a student at Johns Hopkins University. David participated in the Summer Undergraduate Internship Program at Barrow Neurological Institute in the Spinal Biomechanics Lab under the mentorship of Brian Kelly, PhD. Check out this video to see what he worked on this summer, what he learned about spine health; his gratitude to you, our donors who support this program; and how his mentors guided him through this experience, solidifying his passion for spine health.
Thanks to your generosity, students like David can cultivate their interest in the field of neuroscience. Learn more about how philanthropy supports spine health at the link in our bio!

Go behind the scenes at Barrow with undergraduate intern, Samantha Mack! Samantha, a student at the Cleveland Institute of Art, participated in the Summer Undergraduate Internship Program at Barrow Neurological Institute. This summer, she worked under the mentorship of Virginia Prendergast, PhD, in the Neuroscience Nursing Department. She created educational materials to guide post-operative patients through their journey.
Check out the video to learn more about Samantha’s project and her key takeaways from this experience! Learn more about your impact on the education programs at Barrow: https://bar.rw/3K5KtOQ. Link in bio!
#InternSpotlight! Meet Ruby, a participant in the Summer Undergraduate Internship Program at Barrow Neurological Institute and a student at @arizonastateuniversity! This summer, Ruby studied in the Virtual Reality (VR) Spine Laboratory under the mentorship of Ryan Ehredt, MS, where she developed a color alert system and a VR headset for pedicle screw simulation. Training tools like this help neurosurgeons map out the safest way to navigate around the spine before entering the operating room. Watch this video to see her project in action!
Join us in congratulating Ruby on the completion of her internship!
In this video, Anna D. Burke, MD, shares what inspires her to continue her work in Alzheimer`s research and patient care. You don`t want to miss her heartwarming message! 😊
☀️ Today is the longest day of the year. In addition to it being the #SummerSolstice, it is also a day we come together to shine a light on the darkness of Alzheimer’s disease. On this day of light, join us in bringing hope to patients, caregivers, and families living with this disease 24/7.
